Magnetic Drawing Board is a ubiquitous toy for us. You can find it in all major supermarkets as well as brick-and-mortar stores. Most of the time, it comes in a variety of colors and also supports various patterns to be painted on it. It also features pens, multiple shapes of stamps, and toys such as abacuses.
Since it is directly held and painted by the little ones, the quality of it is usually higher, especially in the environmental area.
However, looking at various platforms, one can see some awful reviews, like the following.
The more bad reviews are about the poor quality, including it breaks easily and is very disappointing.
When we see feedback like this, we know it is due to the raw materials.
As we all know, many different kinds of plastics are available on the market.
Because the Magnetic Drawing Board is made of plastic and has a simple structure, a variety of plastic particles can be used as the raw material for manufacturing this product. The two best of them are mentioned here.
1.PS-Polystyrene
Material Characteristics: high hardness, rigidity, wear-resistant, low impact strength, flammability, excellent Electrical insulation, and corrosion resistance. It is usually transparent and comes with high transparency.
Main Uses: daily necessities, electronics, toys, etc.
Stroller position: transparent lampshade, drawing and writing board body, test box, etc.
2.ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
ABS is the acronym for three monomers: acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. This combination of monomers gives ABS outstanding strength and rigidity, making it ideal for many applications.
Material characteristics: It has high impact resistance, high heat resistance, high wear resistance, good flame retardancy, can be transparent, and has increased transparency.
Main Uses: industry, home appliances, pipes, wear-resistant parts, toys, etc.
Stroller position: spray paint/plating parts, load-bearing parts, cartoon image, etc.
While this material is not that heat resistant, it can be reinforced with fillers to improve its quality.
As you can see from the above, ABS will have better characteristics, but it is also the highest in price. See below for our summary of the cost comparison for each plastic.
Low-Cost Mold Materials
Type of Thermoplastic Material | Price per pound |
ABS | $1.30 |
Polypropylene | $0.90 |
Polyethylene | $1.20 |
Polystyrene | $1.00 |
High-Cost Mold Materials
Type of Thermoplastic Material | Price per pound |
Nylon | $2.20 |
Polycarbonate | $2.30 |
Polysulfone | $3.80 |
Even though ABS is more costly, we still choose it as the primary material for our Magnetic Drawing Board, which is superior to the market products in terms of performance and glossiness. Together with the licensed high-end design, it will help us and our customers to compete in the market. Please get in touch with us to place your order.
